Course overview:
The goal of the course is to contribute to the development of students' research competences.
A general introduction and overview of research methodology. Topics covered include:
- The scientific approach and alternative research approaches
- Definition of a problem statement
- Introduction to literature review, theoretical framework and hypothesis development
- The elements of research design
- Sampling
- Qualitative data collection methods and designs
- Quantitative data collection methods and designs
- Introduction to data analysis
Students are expected to (a) apply the discussed concepts, principles and techniques to (simple) cases; (b) justify research choices made; (c) critically assess examples of research design.
