| Can innovatively apply the methods and theories of interior design, in particular in the domain of adaptive re-use, and can combine these efficiently with insights from human sciences, exact sciences, and the arts. | - EC

During the first semester the design studio will consist of a research by design assignment linked to a thematic approach concerning the transformation and adaptation of existing buildings and sites. (The chosen theme could for example be religious, industrial or residential heritage.) It will be embedded in the ongoing research by TRACE, the research team involved in adaptive reuse and heritage of the Faculty. During this process, there is considerable attention paid to heritage value, atmospheric qualities, construction details, and spatial characteristics that are no longer appropriate for new buildings.

Conditions | Attendance at the sessions of the design studio is required. Students must justify any absence in the design studio. In case students cannot submit (parts of) a design project in time, they should follow the guidelines at stake communicated through blackboard or otherwise. |

Consequences | In case of legally justified absence the current project should be fully completed. Unauthorized absence at one third or more of the number of design studio sessions associated with a design studio project, results in mark 0 for the assignment at stake. Failure to submit the project on the appointed day and hour (unless justified) results in mark 0 for the assignment at stake. |
