The course aims to familiarise the student with the severity of the problem of traffic safety, with European Directives 2008/96 and 2004/54, with procedures of Road safety impact assessment (RSIA), Road safety audit (RSA) and Road safety inspection (RSI).
The theoretical part of the course contains the following main components:
- Introduction to road safety and road safety infrastructure management
- Road safety impact assessment (RSIA)
- Road Safety Audit (RSA)
- Road Safety Inspection (RSI)
- Typical road safety deficiencies
- Speed management
- Needs of vulnerable road users
- Modern approaches to road design
Students will carry out a road safety audit and road safety inspection in groups. The purpose of this practical work is that the students learn to apply the theory explained during the lectures.
