The objective of this course is to familiarize students with modern healthcare/not-for profit policy from a health economics and quality management perspective. In the first part of the course, the aim is for students to acquire a basic understanding of economic knowledge and thinking that can be applied to healthcare policy. Resources are limited, healthcare is complex, but economics provides tools and methods to compare and evaluate different health policies. Healthcare is one sector where governments intervene frequently and different health policies will be studied in class.
Students will be able to assess the impact of public policies in health, to identify which parties will be affected and possible (unintended) consequences. The course will consider policies that affect patients and healthcare providers. Comparative analysis will also be made when possible.
