Situation within the curriculum/learning track This elective programme component is part of the learning domain Buildings. It builds on the knowledge gained in Structural Mechanics and Building Materials and prepares the student to apply recent innovations in concrete in his future professional career.

This course covers a wide range of topics through lectures by in-house researchers and guest speakers from industry:
1. European and Belgian standardization of concrete elements and their components
2. Designing with precast concrete elements
3. Innovative applications of concrete
4. Innovative (numerical) models
5. Design methodologies (fire - earthquake)
6. Concrete and environmental aspects
7. Company visits

Relationship with work field The content of the course responds to the current needs of the work field (e.g. BIM, modelling, ...).
Relationship with research The Construction Engineering Research Group of the UHasselt develops important research activities dealing with the development and implementation of integrated structural solutions that make use of concrete, as well as with the development of new numerical methods for the modelling of brittle and semi-brittle materials and structures. These activities are carried out at an international level. This brings a high added value to the educational program.
Sustainability Concrete and his environmental aspects is one of the key points of the course. |
