This course aims to familiarise students with the concepts and techniques of project management. After all, every transportation expert faces project-based work in his/her job. Some as a project leader, others as a member of a project team, still others as a client of a project. It is therefore important to know the issues involved in managing and executing a project, and the techniques used in setting up and managing projects. In this course, these concepts and techniques will be covered. The course is a sequence of theoretical lectures, work sessions, and some concrete practical stories/cases.
During the course, the concepts and techniques of project management and change management will be covered. The following themes will be covered throughout the course:
- Characteristics of projects and project performance
- Project life cycle
- Project teams and project organisation
- Project planning: PERT & CPM
- Resource management in projects
- Theory of constraints in project management
- Real-life cases (VMW and Westerscheldetunnel)
- Risk management
- Project follow-up
