The course focuses thematically on dwelling, meeting and life from the perspective of architecture. Students are introduced to everyday life/living in the city, the ways in which citizens, (private and public) organizations and policy organize and share space in the city and what this may mean for designing the future of dwelling, meeting and life. Anthropological, ethnographic and design anthropological approaches to dwelling and dwelling are central to this course.
Students are introduced to how anthropologists and ethnographers observe socio-spatial mechanisms and how, as architects, they can shape this in their own way.
The students are introduced to the concept of design anthropology and how they can interpret it as architects to observe and shape socio-spatial mechanisms. They are introduced to methods that move on the borderland between observation of the past and present and designing the future.
