The students will acquire a systems biological perspective to explore the most recent findings linking environmental exposures and life style choices to human disease and health. The students will acquire the following learning goals: The student has an understanding of the human metabolic processes that are induced by external elements as well as the combined actions of cell cycle, signal transduction and cytotoxicity. The student has insight in technologies in the domain of omics with pathway and network analyses included. The student has insight in the different molecular levels involved in the effect external exposures on the cell. The student has an understanding of the principles of toxicology applied to several organ systems, including disturbances in anatomy and physiology of the immune, neurlogical, cardiovascular, endocrine and respiratory system. The student has an understanding of the molecular ageing process focussing on telomere biology and the epigenetic clock. The student has understanding of the developmental origin of disease hypothesis.
