Content

The student has insight in the physical and biochemical properties of surfaces, interfaces and nanomaterials.
The student can explain different methods for the chemical and biological activation of surfaces (covalent and non-covalent).
The student has insight in synthesis and applications of biomaterials and nanomaterials.
The student can explain various experimental techniques which can be used to modify and characterize surfaces and select a suitable technique for a specific nanotechnology/biomedical application.

Key terms: properties of surfaces, biological activation, Langmuir-Blodgett films, self-assembly, self-assembled monolayers, chemical ligation methods, plasma treatment, photochemistry, nanoparticles, FT-IR spectroscopy, micro contact printing, functional polymers, grafting to/from approaches

Other lab reports
Transfer of partial marks within the academic year
Written exam85 %
Open questions
Evaluation conditions (participation and/or pass)
Conditions 1.Presence at the practicals is obligatory. 2. The practical report is part of the final result. Practical reports must always be submitted.
Consequences Students who are unauthorized absent at one or more practicals receive as final grade for the course an N (unauthorized absence) and have to attend the practical in the next academic year and have to meet the requirements (e.g. a signed report) to receive their final grade. The student needs to re-enroll in the course in the next academic year. In this case, partial grades can be transferred to the next academic year.
