During this senior internship, the student performs independent scientific research fully integrated in a research group under the guidance of a scientific promotor. This senior internship is based on the proposal prepared in the course 'Master's thesis: Grant writing'. Research positions are available at Hasselt University, Maastricht University, external labs in hospitals and biomedical/biotechnological companies, or other research groups in Belgium or abroad. The positions will be communicated through an internship database and introduced by the coordinator during an infosession. The practical training should have a minimal duration of 26 to 27 weeks full time. Results are written down in the master's thesis.

Additional information | The evaluation is done by the scientific promotor based on specific criteria such as independency, effort, initiative, scientific understanding of the topic, critical evaluation of the results, motivation, team work, quality of lab work, etc. There is no second chance for this course. Students failing (score < 10/20) should take the course in a following academic year. |

The content of this course is master specific, as is the associated grant writing and master's thesis. This means that when registering for another master's specialisation, grant writing (4143), senior internship (4153) and master's thesis (4151) have to be part of the academic program of this specialisation (no exemption).
Regular students take up this course for 24 ECTS (=standard). Students selected for a BAEF scholarship take up this course for 30 ECTS after consultation with the Academic Advisor ('studieloopbaanbegeleider'). |
