Prerequisites

The student can autonomously consult and summarize international scientific specialist literature in transportation sciences and take a substantiated stand based on this information. The student can apply the framework of Intervention Mapping to develop intervention programs. The student is familiar with the relevant individual elements of the transport infrastructure design and the processes and tools that bring these parts together. The student is familiar with how decisions are made at large infrastructure project development stages and the multi-actor relationships between public and private partners. The student is familiar with the strategies and tactics governments use to gradually change the existing transportation system into a more sustainable one, which problems they must overcome during this process, and how implementing the adopted strategies can be improved. The student has a conceptual understanding of the most common intelligent solutions in transportation with their anticipated benefits and their shortcomings. The student has a basic understanding of how emerging technological developments would transform the transportation system in the near future and the practical deployment of such solutions. The student is familiar with the vast potential of possible approaches to apply current technologies in ways that would facilitate useful interactions between transportation supply and demand, performance measures, planning, and policy making.



Content

In a case-study of an international city such as Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Bangkok, Dar Es Salaam, etc. students integrate knowledge and skills from other courses taught in the same semester, e.g. concepts of Behavioural Interventions, Transport Infrastructure, Intelligent Solutions in Transportation, etc.In parallel and together with fellow students you immediately apply what you learn to the case of an international mega-city. The case-study is developed in co-operation with an expert with expertise in the local transportation and traffic safety situation.

The majority of your learning will be done through self-study, based on the course material that is made available online. You will have access to a range of useful online learning materials such as online lectures, reading materials, as well as access to thousands of e-books, online journals and other resources via our online university library. Approximately mid-semester, an online interactive Question and Answer session will be organised, where students can meet the course lecturer and fellow students online and have the opportunity to go deeper into the course material.

All evaluations will be done online, whether by submission of assignments or by taking written or oral exams online, or a combination of assignments and exams. Written exams will be done with online proctoring (exam supervision) to retain the integrity of a supervised exam, while providing the flexibility of an online platform. For the online exams, distance learning students should ensure to have a laptop/pc with a working webcam and microphone, a charged mobile device (phone/tablet) and a stable internet connection (minimum upload speed of 1.5 MB/second), as well as a quiet, secluded room to take the exam in.

Conditions Submission Timely submission of all required assignments (paper and presentation) is mandatory to obtain a final mark. Minimum partial results and pass criteria A minimum score (≥ 10/20) must be achieved on both components (paper and presentation) in order to pass the course. Only students who have fulfilled all compulsory components can receive a final mark.
Consequences Late submission Failure to submit compulsory assignments on time (final paper and presentation) may result in a score of 0 for the course. Insufficient partial results If the student obtains less than 10/20 on any component of the course, that lowest partial mark will become the final mark for that examination period. Lack of active participation In cases of insufficient active contribution to group work (evidenced by peer assessment), the individual student’s score may be adjusted. Buddycheck may apply a correction factor to the group score to reflect individual contributions. For further details, see the course manual. Active participation With active participation in group work, the individual student's score may vary based on the individual contribution to the paper, the presentation, answering of questions, discussion, etc.

Explanation (English)Retention of partial marks for the second examination period: • Partial results with a passing score (≥ 10/20) from the first exam opportunity will be carried over to the second examination period. This applies to the final paper and presentation. • In the case of a failed group assignment, an alternative task may be set for the second examination period, aligned with the intended learning outcomes. Second examination period: • If a student has a second exam opportunity, it is their responsibility to contact the lecturer in time to clarify which components must be retaken. • If the result was insufficient, the student may be asked to submit a revised or individual version of the original task. • If a student fails the overall course but passes separate components (final paper or presentation), the partial result will be transferred to the second examination period.
