1- The student can search and find relevant litterature on the topic "Cardiology". The student can summarize the found information in a litterature review and can present it to student colleagues and mentor in a clear, concise, complete and educationally sound manner. To achieve this goal, the student must perform a critical analysis of the read scientific articles.
2- The student has the knowledge on basic cardiology at the organ level, at the cellular and molecular level and has insight into the most recent research topics in the domain.
3- The student has some insight into cardiology research in a non-academic environment and/or in other disciplines that are complementary to cardiology (e.g. biomaterials)
4- The student can collaborate in a team to produce a scientific report and presentation

| Conditions | The evaluation consists of multiple components:
- (peer) review (Q4)
- Journal club and tutor sessions participation (Q2)
- Pitch presentation of review (Q4)
- Written exam with oral explanation of the theory (Q2)
Presence at the practical sessions, journal clubs, tutor sessions and pitch presentations is obligatory.
For all parts of the evaluation, at least a score of 10/20 must be obtained in order to pass the course. |

| Consequences | Students who are unauthorized absent at one or more practicals, journal clubs, tutor sessions and pitch presentations, receive as final grade for the course a 'N - unauthorized absence- and have to attend this session in the next academic year and have to meet the requirements (e.g. a signed report) to receive their final grade. The student needs to re enroll in the course in the next academic year. In this case, partial grades can be transferred to the next academic year. A student who achieves a score lower than 10/20 on one (or more) parts of the evaluation will receive a 'fail (F)' as a final result. |

| Additional information | The course is evaluated in quartile 2 and quartile 4. In quartile 2, the follow items are evaluated:
- the active participation in journal clubs (Q2) and tutor sessions (Q2 and Q4) (oral evaluation during teaching period; 10%)
- theory by means of written exam with oral explanation (during exam period; 20%)
In quartile 4, the follow items are evaluated:
- the written review with peer review (written evaluation during teaching period; 40%)
- pitch presentation of the review (during exam period; 30%)
