Work within an enterprise can be divided into daily operations and projects. The first type of work relies on routine, whereas the second type of work involves assignments that are finite in time and where routine plays a lesser role. Both types require a different approach with respect to the organization and management of the work that needs to be executed.
The course is divided into two parts." In the first part, the course focuses on the fundamentals of projects and project management. It explores what defines a project, the key factors that contribute to project success and the main phases of a project lifecycle. For each phase, students are introduced to essential project management tasks and how these are managed within classical and agile project management approaches.
The second part of the course focuses on process-oriented work and introduces the business process management lifecycle. We study the different stages of the lifecycle and provide an overview of the different tools, techniques, and methodologies that can be used during those stages.
