  • The student must be able to familiarize themself with a new business information system
  • The student is able to perform simple operations on a dataset
  • The student can achieve a balanced division of tasks within a team


Content

This course focuses on the managerial/business aspect of Data Science and will consist of three modules:

  • The first module introduces the domain of Business Intelligence, which covers how data can be transformed into actionable business insights that inform business decisions.
  • The second module focuses on Data Science for Business in practice, considering the connection between Data Science and Business Strategy, as well as recent trends in Data Science for Business.
  • The third module is a project in which students will apply knowledge and competencies acquired in the other modules, as well as the course 'Managing Data, Decisions and Processes' (5081), to a business case.

Conditions

Students can only pass the course if they have participated in all parts of the evaluation.

The student must obtain at least a tolerable mark (8/20) for all components of the evaluation in order to be able to obtain a tolerable mark as the final result.

Consequences

Failure to participate in any part of the evaluation results in an unwarranted absence for the entire course.

If a tolerable mark was not obtained on all parts, the student will receive a max 7/20.

Additional information
  • This course uses peer evaluation to gain insight into team functioning during the project (mandatory participation). The results of the peer evaluation may lead to a differentiation in the scoring of individual team members according to their contribution.
  • The partial mark of the written exam cannot be transferred within the academic year.

Explanation (English)For the second examination opportunity, a project has a weight of 50% in
the total score. If the score of the project from the first examination
opportunity was retained, this score (based on the written evaluation
during the teaching period and the oral evaluation during the teaching
period) is carried over and no new project is required. If the score of
the project from the first examination opportunity was not retained, a
new project is defined. A written examination (closed book) has a weight
of 50% in the total score of the second examination opportunity.
