Content

The course "Sustainable Production and Consumption," is the cornerstone (12 ECTS) of the track "The Economics and Business of Sustainability."

The course is composed of 2 blocks.

In part 1 after providing the rationale for sustainable production and consumption, and the need for a more systemic analysis approach, the focus is on how to quantify the environmental performance of countries, economic sectors, companies, and products. To that end, students are initiated to Systems thinking and Systems Dynamics, and after reiterating the macro-economic System of National Accounts (SNA) to EW-MFA (country), EEIO (sector), MFNA (sector), static and dynamic MFA (country-sector-firm), and ultimately LCA (product). As such, students are familiarized with an arsenal of tools for quantifying environmental impacts resulting from economic activity across various spatial scales.

In part 2, we take it to the firm and cover how to implement a sustainability strategy where best-practices, tools, and instruments on how to facilitate the cycle of formulation, implementation, measurement, and reporting to allow for learning are introduced and applied.
