Content

This course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in project management and construction law in the bachelor and introduces students to the professional context of interior architecture. It explores the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of contemporary design practice, addressing the roles, responsibilities, and collaborations involved in the development and delivery of design projects. Students develop competencies in entrepreneurship, project coordination, communication, and organisation, while learning to position and articulate their own design approach within the broader fields of architecture, interior architecture, and design. Particular attention is given to the ethical responsibilities of the designer and to the integration of sustainability, feasibility, and resource-conscious design strategies within professional practice. The course also introduces strategies for professional practice, including the preparation of design proposals, competition entries, and applications for public procurement procedures.

Learning outcomes

Master of Interior Architecture (Dutch)
  •  EC
  • Can communicate a design(process) convincingly to novices and specialists in images, written and spoken word, using the appropriate visualization techniques, both digital and manual, in a balanced, targeted, and deliberate way.

  •  EC
  • Initiate a personal designer profile and articulate this through an own design language and design vision.

  •  EC
  • Has knowledge about and insight in the work field, both actual and historical, of the interior architect, is able to situate one's own practice within this framework and can implement the newest developments within the work field in one's design practice.

  •  EC
  • Designs with awareness of the intermediary character of interior architecture and the societal, ethical and ecological implications of the design.

  •  EC
  • Has acquired the management capacities to follow-up a (whether or not multidisciplinary) design- or executing team in a leading role, and can prepare and communicate a building dossier, taking into account the deontology of the profession.

  •  EC
  • Can independently apply and come up with research- and design strategies within a societal, historically defined and international context, and in function of a future oriented vision on the design of an interior space.
