Sustainable Innovation has its focus on profitable business for good and was originally created at the request of the entrepreneurial and business community; on the one hand to provide students with the latest knowledge about sustainable value creation and on the other hand to eliminate a number of misconceptions about sustainability.
The course is part of Aim2Flourish (AACSB & PRME endorsed), the world’s first higher-education curriculum for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and businesses as agents of world benefit, creating mutual benefit for their stakeholders as well as positive social and ecological impacts; doing well by doing good. Students around the world search for and inquire into examples of business innovations from for-profit organizations that increase economic prosperity, while contributing to a healthy world and human wellbeing (e.g., regenerative, beyond zero companies, etc.). Using the UN SDGs as a lens, students conduct Appreciative Inquiry (AI) interviews with inspiring entrepreneurs or business leaders in their communities. Students then write stories about the sustainable innovation, publish their stories on the Aim2Flourish platform (after various feedback rounds from external and internal highly qualified reviewers), inspiring others, and reflect on their experiences as active and theoretically informed learners. As such, students participate in an experiential, global learning inquiry about business for good.
Students learn how to approach global and business challenges with a spirit of curiosity/inquiry, and the ability to ask generative questions in exploring positive solutions. Students learn how to conduct AI interviews (in-person or online interview) with an entrepreneur or a business leader. Students participate in an international learning experience as the issues discussed in the course are international in nature and the Aim2Flourish platform is global. Students are stimulated to think and rethink about business’ potential to do good, and to reflect on their own potential to be positive social innovators. Students work in self-steering teams and learn from their experiences about how teams in businesses work.
