Content

Different modules of the design studio focus on the in depth study and detailing of specific key concepts, each according to their own strategy. In one year, each students chooses 2 consecutive design studios (1 per semester), hence covering at least 4 complementary key concepts.

The design studio of 1st Master in Architecture and its students wish to complete a number of key competences that fit the interplay of 4 key concepts: context, content, concept and construction. Skills related to design, research, management, communication and teamwork are matched with these key concepts. At the same time the international dimension of the design studio is brought forward with English design studios. The master design studio welcomes foreign exchange students in architecture and is supervised by design studio teachers in cooperation with architectural offices and universities abroad.

Evaluation

Period 2    Credits 12,00

Evaluation method
Other evaluation method during teaching period100 %
Other evaluation based on design assignments
Evaluation conditions (participation and/or pass)
Conditions Attendance at the sessions of the design studio is required. Students must justify any absence in the design studio. In case students cannot submit (parts of) a design project in time, they should follow the guidelines at stake communicated through blackboard.
Consequences In case of legally justified absence the current project should be fully completed. Unauthorized absence at one third or more of the number of design studio sessions associated with a design studio project, results in mark 0 for the assignment at stake. Failure to submit the project on the appointed day and hour (unless justified) results in mark 0 for the assignment at stake.
Possible other location
Additional information During their study stay, students should master the common presentation skills (hand and computer drawing, model making including laser cutting...) of the study programmes at the faculty of Architecture and Arts of Hasselt University.
