During the first semester the design studio will consist of a research by design assignment linked to a thematic approach concerning the transformation and adaptation of existing buildings and sites. It will be embedded in the ongoing research by TRACE, the research team involved in adaptive reuse and heritage of the Faculty. During this process, there is considerable attention paid to heritage value, atmospheric qualities, construction details, and spatial characteristics that are no longer appropriate for new buildings.

Conditions | Presence during the sessions of the design studio is obligatory and the student needs to make a weekly report of the studio guidance. Every absence should be legitimized by the student. If a task or work piece cannot be handed in in time, the guidelines communicated on Blackboard or otherwise need to be followed. |

Consequences | In case of illegitimate absence, the current task needs to be completed entirely. Not handing in a task of work piece on the communicated day and hour (unless legitimate reasons apply) results in a 0 for that task. |
