Prerequisites
  • The student can list examples of qualitative research that help managers better understand a business problem.
  • The student knows the difference between qualitative and quantitative research and can justify the choice for either based on scientific arguments.
  • The student can name the added value as well as the limitations of qualitative research.
  • The student can explain the difference between positivism and interpretivism.
  • The student can reduce a management problem to a research problem, to be investigated through qualitative methods.
  • The student can conduct a literature review using correct referencing.
  • The student recognizes ethical problems in qualitative research and understands their implications.


Content

Course overview:

The aim of the course is to contribute to the development of research competences of students in the field of qualitative research.

Specifically, this course focuses on topics such as:

  • The specific characteristics of qualitative research
  • Formulating a problem definition and research questions for qualitative research
  • The elements in setting up qualitative research
  • The collection of qualitative data
  • The analysis of qualitative data

Students apply the acquired insights during the execution of their own qualitative research project in small groups.
