Work within an enterprise can be divided into daily operations and projects. The first type of work relies on routine, whereas the second type of work involves assignments that are finite in time and where routine plays a lesser role. Both types require a different approach with respect to the organization and management of the work that needs to be executed.
The course is divided into two parts. In the first part, the course focuses on project-based work, and the intent is to familiarize students with the principles and goals of project management. We study various phases that occur in most projects, such as the project discovery phase, the project planning phase, and the project execution phase. Furthermore, we study the classical and agile project management paradigms and the differences between the two.
The second part of the course focuses on process-oriented work and introduces the business process management lifecycle. We study the different stages of the lifecycle and provide an overview of the different tools, techniques, and methodologies that can be used during those stages.
