This course assumes familiarity with computer programming, basic knowledge of combinatorial and sequential digital systems, introductory concepts in microcontrollers, computer architectures and organization as well as basic knowledge of hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog

This goal of this course is the insight and real application of knowledge and skills in the design and implementation of
complex digital design as used in System‑on‑Chip and FPGA design.
Contents:
·Advanced HDL (Hardware Description Language) based design, schematics design, simulation
·Advanced design of combinatorial and sequential digital circuits and systems
·Interfacing methods
·Design methods for reliable digital circuits and systems
·Management of clocks in digital systems
·Design Trajectory and Workflows
·Hands‑on experimentation
This course is organized in the form of application lectures and practical sessions. There will also be a project on which the student will work individually or in a small team.

Situation within the curriculum / speciality: This course fits in the specializations: digital electronics and computer architectures. In this course, the practical design of digital electronic systems is being trained and applied. The emphasis is on the design of complex digital systems and their implementation in FPGAs.
Relation with the work field: Modern companies often require high throughput processing in their systems based on digital electronics. This course aims at the design of digital systems that are too demanding to be implemented with traditional microprocessors or microcontrollers.
Relation with research: this course builds on the research in the area of digital electronic systems, FPGA design, system on chip design and sensor systems. |
